Default JTR help

Hi, It was only recently that I've been getting into more focus on the exploiting side to cracking. I've managed to get a couple of ccbill .log files from weak sites. Because anyone can really get them with a good exploit list. :P Anyways, after using CCBRIP to convert these to user:pass format I found that it comes as 'login3:nGhPcWOUxTlJJ' for example. Basically what I am saying is I've got the userid:ENCRYPTEDPASSWORD format and wish to use JTR to reveal the passwords. But my computer wont open the JTR files (john.exe). I've got the necessary .dlls and stuff. Could anyone shed some light onto my problem?

Thanks for any help.

It opens them, it is just that you probably clicked on it from windows interface, so it immediatelly closed it.

Jtr is a command line tool, so it runs from your ms-dos prompt, or whatever your version of that is (command prompt probably).

So open command prompt, navigate where your john.exe is located and there you give the commands. About how to do those things, you can read the docs that come with jtr (located in "doc" folder) and read through the tutors on our forum. We've written some good extensive tutors about that.
