Arrow Linux

Hello guys. I have FINALLY made the alnertating switch from Windows to LINUX!!

As of this moment I have been running Linux, and trying to learn all of the commands and things of such.

I wanted to know something. would it be best for me to continue to use Linux to continue Cracking, Begin to learn Exploiting, and to further my knowledge of security?

Could anyone from the forum help me out in regards to hints and tips, things to know, and what I should and shouldn't do.

Also I needed to know what version of Active Perl I need to download so I can begin to study scripts, exploits, roots, and things of other nature.

Thanks for any help!!

It's always good to have a linux box near you as most of the boxes our there are lunixoid like. Actually, unixoid like :P There's i think only 1 or 2 i've seen that run on windows.
But windows also supports more cracking tools, although i hear you can port them somehow to linux but don't know how that goes.

I'm a big fan of VMware for a scenario like this. You basically just install a windows virtual machine of some flavor and run your apps from within it. Also useful for testing new apps that are iffy - if you have a backup copy of the virtual machine file, you just blow it away and replace it. In my labs, I use a pile of 1U boxes with linux base machines and VMs for damn near everything else on top of them, depending on what I need. Very very useful, and reasonably fast on a good box.

You install VMWare workstation (or VMWare GSX if it's a server), and then install windows as you normally would inside of the virtual machine using a typical installation CD.
